Cancer Wellness & Retreat Center

The Cancer Wellness & Retreat Center is a holistic healing campus proposed on a 10-acre site in the Southern California desert. Designed to support restoration, education, and personal well-being, the retreat provides a tranquil environment where architecture, landscape, and community come together to foster healing and connection.

  • The campus includes hospitality units, a manager's residence, wellness and fitness facilities, therapeutic outdoor spaces, an artist-in-residence program, and a community building for classes, events, and gatherings. Individual buildings are organized as a collection of smaller pavilions connected by shaded pathways and outdoor rooms that encourage movement throughout the site while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
The project employs thermal mass rammed earth walls, strategic building orientation, and passive environmental design principles to minimize energy consumption and reduce long-term operating costs. By carefully preserving mature Joshua Trees and integrating native desert vegetation, the design seeks to create a resilient and restorative destination that is deeply rooted in its unique environmental context.
